ESSENTIAL
GUIDE TO
AGEING
WELL
RETIREMENT AGE USED TO BE SEEN AS THE
BEGINNING OF THE END. THESE DAYS, IT'S
NOT EVEN THE END OF THE BEGINNING...
S
cientists now consider the 60s to be 'middle
age' as life expectancy is at a record high and
people are reported to be happier in the
60-plus age bracket than any other. This is all
fantastic news for the so-called baby boomers,
but it doesn't mean the years to come are guaranteed
to be healthy ones.
Despite being the first generation with access to free
healthcare, research shows many people in their 60s
are far less healthy than their parents and grandparents
were. This is largely because the lifestyles of today's 60
to 69-year-olds are blighted by lack of exercise and bad
diets. Even major advancements in modern medicine
and improved standards of living haven't been enough
to keep ill health at bay.
With health worries becoming more evident once
people hit this age, we've rounded up the most common
issues, the treatments which exist to help and offer advice
on ways you can help prevent some of these illnesses and
stay healthy well into your seventh decade and beyond...
